Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025 — Nelson Fiscal Court honored the Bardstown Rotary Club on its 45th anniversary as an affiliated club.

Retired business owner Tommy Reed — one of the three remaining original founding members of Bardstown Rotary — spoke the court about the various local, national and international works that Internetional Rotary clubs help make possible for those in need.

Reed, David Clark, and Bill Conway joined the fledgling club when it formed in 1980, and each said they have each strived to make sure the club closely following its motto, “Service Above Self.”

NEW HOPE FIRE LOAN. Nelson Fiscal Court approved a loan that will finance the New Hope Fire Department’s purchase of a used fire truck from a local fire department.

The New Hope department will put up $5,000, and then they will use the county’s annual $5,000 of funding to pay off the balance of the $35,000 purchase price.

TOWER PROJECTS. Nelson Fiscal Court approved bids for two antenna projects to improve first-responder communications in the Southern half of Nelson County.

One antenna tower project will improve communications in the Howardstown area, while the second will cover the Culvertown general area.

In other action, the court:

— approved the appointing Jim Whited to a three-year term on the Bardstown – Nelson County Human Rights Commission.

— heard the announcement that sign-ups are available for non-profit groups who wish to participate in the county’s litter abatement program. Groups who participate can earn money by signing up to clean on or more county roadways. For more information, call county government at (502) 348-1800.
