Obituary: Carolyn Greenwell Haydon, 78, Bardstown

Carolyn Greenwell Haydon, 78, of Bardstown, died peacefully at her home Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of the family she cherished so deeply. She was born Nov. 3,1947 in Bardstown to James Bernard “Jimmy” Greenwell and Verna Mae Greenwell. She lived a life rooted in faith, family, and boundless compassion.

She was a proud graduate of Bethlehem High School and Edgecliff College. She carried her devotion to education and community into every chapter of her life. As a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, her faith guided her actions and shaped the quiet strength she offered to others.

She was the true embodiment of what a mother and grandmother should be — warm, generous, steady, and endlessly present. Her light and laughter filled every room she entered, and her kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She lived and breathed for her grandchildren, pouring her heart into each of their lives. She lovingly extended that same spirit to their friends, becoming a grandmother figure to many who needed one. Her devotion to her family was unmatched; every decision she made was guided by love, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to those she held dear.

Carolyn’s life was one of unwavering love, generosity, and grace. Her family takes comfort knowing that her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched, and in the laughter and love she inspired in all who were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Bernard “Jimmy” Greenwell and Verna Mae Greenwell; and two brothers, James Bernard “Jim” Greenwell and Joseph Ignatius Greenwell.

She was survived by her beloved husband, Joseph “Jodie” Haydon; two daughters, Allison Haydon Osborne (Chris) and Amy Haydon Pehlke; seven grandchildren, Caroline Osborne, Christopher Osborne (Amy Luu), Haydon Osborne, Nicholas Osborne, Miller Osborne, Amelia Pehlke and Hilary Pehlke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with Rev. J. Randall Hubbard officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2025, at Barlow Funeral Home, 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem High School or St. Joseph Church.
