James Timothy “Kojak” Newton, 63, of Washington County, died Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1962, in Marion County and was raised in Loretto. He formerly worked as an auto mechanic with American Tire in Bardstown. He also farmed and previously worked for Buzick Construction.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Otho “Bud” and Catherine Lillian “Cattie” Newton; one step-son, Jonathan Anthony “A. J.” Metcalf; and one brother, Roger Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Arleen Greenwell Newton; one daughter, Misty Lawson of Louisville; one son, James Timothy “T. J.” Newton Jr., of Louisville; one stepdaughter, Rachel Leeann Metcalf of Bardstown; one stepson, Christopher Metcalf (Amanda) of Bardstown; two sisters, Joyce Lawson of Cox’s Creek and Lisa Hutchins (Doug) of Saint Francis; seven brothers, Keith Newton (Lisa) of Springfield, Ricky Newton (Donna), Calvin Newton, Terry Newton and Dale Newton (Susan), all of Loretto, and Les Newton and Rob Newton, both of Louisville; seven grandchildren; and 11 stepgrandchildren.
The graveside service is noon Monday, May 19, 2025, at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mattingly Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
