Obituary: Mary ‘Barbara’ Headdy, 81, Bardstown

Mary “Barbara” Headdy, 81, of Bardstown, died Saturday, May 3, 2025, at University of Louisville Hospital. She was born Dec. 25, 1943, in Bardstown to Catherine “Lucile” and James “Burton” Reesor. She was a member of St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church in Cox’s Creek.

MARY “BARBARA” HEADDY

She graduated salutatorian of Bethlehem High School. She was a real estate agent and ran a family construction business and a miniature golf course with her husband. She later designed and sold custom cabinetry at Buzick Lumber & Chris’ Custom Creations. She was an avid reader and led many book clubs, often played cards with her friends, deepened her faith through her church and Spiritual Seekers group, but above all, she loved and supported her family. You could always find her beaming with pride while sharing one of her children or grandchildren’s achievements.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Headdy; her parents, Lucile and Burton Reesor; one sister, Marilyn Kelty; and three sons, David Taylor, Randy Taylor, and Tony Payton.

She is survived by one daughter, Danielle (Chris) Cox; two sons, Shawn (Lisa) Taylor and Kevin (Beth) Payton; two stepdaughters, Cindy (Stan) Moscrip and Teri Richardson; one brother-in-law, Richard Kelty;

22 grandchildren, Brian Taylor, Megan Taylor, Ty Payton, Chloe’ (Derek) Klingaman, Zachary (Kara) Taylor, Abigail (Aaron) Ivey, Cassy Payton, Zayne Payton, Emme Payton, Nash Payton, Logan Cox, Caleb Cox, Tyler Cox, Wyatt Cox, Justin (Victoria), Joshua, Sophia, Joel, Jeremy Clampitt, Isaiah Richardson and Mathew Richardson; two nephews, Robbie and Dane Kelty; many great-grandchildren; several bonus grandchildren including Cierra (Devon) Higdon and Robert (Amanda) Kelty; and close friends.

The Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church with cremation to follow with the Rev. Kien Nguyen officiating.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, and 8 – 9:15 am Friday May 9 at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service will be 7 pm Thursday evening.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church or the Nelson County Public Library.
