Patrick Louis Hagan, 75, of Bardstown, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 29, 1950, and grew up in New Haven.

He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in political science, history and education. He graduated from William Patterson University with a Master of Education in School Administration and Supervision and a Master of Education in Special Education. He later received his Doctorate of Education in Early Childhood Administration from the University of Louisville.
He initiated the Early Childhood Education program and retired as the Assistant Superintendent of Bardstown City Schools. He was the co-founder of Bardstown Foundation for Excellence in Public Education and was a member of the Bardstown Rotary Club. He was a three-term member of the Nelson County Public Library board of trustees. He was a businessman, a voracious reader and walker and had a great love for education, innovation, learning, taking risks and especially his Jersey girl and their home on Long Beach Island. He loved and forever championed his children and grandchildren to always follow their own paths in education and beyond.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Miriam Dawson Hagan; two brothers, Joseph Raphael and Joseph Ignatius Hagan; his mother and father-in-law: Albert and Elinor Sferra Bazaz, Maria and Clark Workman, Richard and Tina Brightly and Nancy Bazaz.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gianina Bazaz Hagan; two children, Michael (Jen) Hagan of Bardstown and Ellen (David Flores) Hagan of Manhattan; four grandchildren, Jake Hagan, Lisa Hagan, Araceli Flores, Miriam Hagan Flores; his siblings, Nancy and H.R. Nusz, Martha and Lanny Stiles, Fred and Pat Hagan, Steve and Mary Hagan, Bill and Brenda Hagan and Helen Hagan; and brothers-in-law, Albert Bazaz and Michael and Violeta Mihu-Bazaz; and his many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025 at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. J. Randall Hubbard officiating.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the
Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Office of Missions and Advancements, P.O. Box 9, Nazareth, KY, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
