Obituary: Ronald Edward Elliott, 81, Bardstown

Ronald Edward Elliott, 81, of Bardstown, died Dec. 5, 2025 at his home. He was born Dec. 14, 1943 in Stanford to Herman and Eudelle (Dawson) Elliott. He was educated at Stanford High School, Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky.

As a computer programmer, he was involved in the historic Apollo mission which placed Americans on the moon and served a number of years on the faculty in the University of Kentucky Community College Systems.

An award-winning author, he leaves a significant legacy in Kentucky journalism as he produced numerous books detailing events in Kentucky history. Written in historical fiction style, each of Ron’s works is distinguished by impeccable research.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Allen (Donna) Elliott.

He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Carol Guthrie Elliott of Bardstown; one daughter, Jessica (Stephen) Wells; one son, Steven Elliott; one stepdaughter, Katy (Rick) Marshall of Indiana; one stepson, Thaddeus (Breanna) McCollum of Ohio; one sister, Sandy King of Richmond; three grandchildren, Isaac Wells, Seth Wells and Olivia Wells, all of Lexington; and four stepgrandchildren, Mary Jane McCollum, Luna Marshall, Dexter Marshall and Henry Marshall.

The celebration of life is 1 p.m. Dec. 14, 2025, at Barlow Funeral Home.
