Bardstown man arrested after he helped crash car, left injured girlfriend at scene

Tuesday, March 6, 2012, 1:20 p.m. — A Bardstown man was arrested Tuesday morning after he caused his girlfriend to crash her vehicle and then fled the scene, leaving her injured  in the car.

According to police, Na Shon Williams, 18, was arrested at a family member’s Harding Street home about 7:30 Tuesday morning and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident.

Bardstown Police and Nelson County EMS were called at 2:48 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a car on its side in a ditch on US150 near Pottershop Loop. Officers found Kelly Nichols, 19, of Bardstown, still inside her 2007 Saturn. She was taken to Flaget Memorial Hospital for treatment of cuts to her head.

Nichols told police that during an argument in the car, Williams, her boyfriend, grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it, causing her to crash the car in the ditch. She told police she begged Williams for help after the crash, but he he climbed out of the car and left the scene.

Police found a trail of blood from the sidewalk to the Harding Street home of one of Williams’ family members. They located Williams inside and he was arrested without incident.

Following treatment of her injuries, Nichols was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc.

The investigation is ongoing, and Bardstown Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this incident contact them at 348-6811.
