Benjamin Tobin ‘Ben’ Long, 62, Bloomfield

Benjamin Tobin “Ben” Long, 62, of Bloomfield, died Monday, March 12, 2012, in Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was a native of Nelson County and the retired superintendent of Bloomfield Public Works Department. He was mayor of Bloomfield from 1982-1985. He was a 35-year member of North East Nelson Fire Department and served on the Board of Directors. He also served on the Bloomfield Park Board. He retired as a staff sergeant after 13 years of service with the Kentucky National Guard Battery C 2nd Howitzer Battalion 138 artillery. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and Choir and was a Kentucky Colonel.

He was the son of the late Vernon and Teresa Buckman Long and was preceded in death by his first wife Alice Hagan Long.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Marks Long; one daughter Tina Long of Bloomfield; two sons, Brent Long and his wife Natalie, and Matthew Long, both of Bloomfield; three stepdaughters, Kristen Dugan and Amy (Kevin) Mayhugh, both of Louisville, and Molly (Jay) Pierce of Munster, Ind; one stepson, Andrew Dugan of Louisville; one sister Betty (Mike) Devereaux of Louisville; two brothers, Mike (Carolyn) Long of Ankara Turkey, and Steve Long of Bardstown; three grandchildren, Toby, Cate and Ben Long; and two stepgrandchildren, Bryce and Landry Mayhugh.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012, at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Bill Hammer celebrant. Burial is in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Houghlin Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
