Freezing rain may leave county coated with a thin, icy glaze

STAFF REPORT

Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, 10 a.m. — Nelson County and portions of North Central Kentucky are now under a Freezing Rain Advisory until Noon Monday.

A strong winter storm will form today and depositĀ ice and snow across the Midwest. Though the storm will track generally north of the Ohio River, the National Weather Service says the potential still exists for the storm to dump up to one-tenth of an inch of ice on Nelson County.

Ahead of the storm, patches of light freezing rain or freezing drizzle will likely fall over parts of Central Kentucky, leaving a light glaze of ice on surfaces prone to freezing including bridges, overpasses, car windows and trees.
