Federal employees’ group meets, plans meeting, lunch at Ryans in May
Monday, April 9, 2012 — The Elizabethtown NARFE Chapter 1050 met in early April for their monthly membership meeting. After enjoying refreshments and decorations provided by Lilo Figueroa, Berlie Lee, and Mildred Williams, NARFE chapter president Kay Bennett opened the meeting for business. She reminded the group of the Public Service appreciation day at Fort Knox on May 10, and the NARFE National Convention from August 26-30 in Nevada.
The membership bid a farewell to longtime member Ilse Harman, who will be moving to Lawrenceburg in the near future. After the business meeting, program chair Mary Tom Haun invited the members to enjoy the showcase of hobbies and interests provided by several members. Roland and Mary Tom Haun shared souvenirs from their international travels as well as information from their Appaloosa Horse business. Gale Dunkelberger displayed her beautiful landscape oil paintings. Dolores Pfeiffer brought a colorful quilt she had made. Roland Dixon brought his remote control airplane to display. Carol Aiken brought Longaberger baskets, and Peggy Johnson displayed her Mary Kay beauty products. The Aikens also had a table of books available for a donation. Mary Ann Alexander won the monthly door prize, and Paula Brown won the 50/50 prize.
The May meeting is usually a pot luck luncheon, but on May 7, the membership will gather at the Nolin RECC building on Ring Road in Elizabethtown for a refreshment-free business meeting and then adjourn for lunch together at Ryan’s in Elizabethtown. Sam Alexander’s Heartland Service Center will open from 9-11 a.m. to provide assistance for federal employees active and retired, and the business meeting will begin at 11 a.m. For more information, please call NARFE 1050 president Kay Bennett at 270-769-3137.
