Dorothy Ann Coomes, 85, Bardstown

Dorothy Ann Coomes, 85, of Bardstown, died peacefully in the loving care of her family and friends at her home on Thursday, April 19, 2012. She was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Metuchen, N.J. Her parents were Captain Charles G. and Hilda Bridwell. She was raised at various Army bases in the U.S. and Panama.

She was a member of TOPS and participated in their programs with enjoyment. In 2011, she was given a trophy and named as TOPS Kentucky Queen. She also enjoyed activities with the St. Gregory Catholic Church Senior Club, Immaculate Conception Church Bingo Club, and the Bardstown Senior Citizens Association, and as a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles G. and Hilda Bridwell; two brothers, Kayo and Norman Bridwell; and one sister Debbie Jean Bridwell Hartlage.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, William L. Coomes; her loving son, Thomas L. and his wife Donna Coomes; her loving three grandchildren, Tracey Coomes, Tom G. Coomes, and Christopher Coomes; six great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lana, Mitchell, Maria, Codi, and Cheyanne; and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jeff Hopper will officiate.

Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Sunday and 8–9:15 a.m. Monday at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held Sunday evening.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Vincent de Paul Mission Store, or Hospice of Nelson County, both of Bardstown.
