UPDATED: NCHS won’t dismiss early though power outage persists

Tuesday, May 1, 2012, 9:30 a.m. (UPDATED 1 p.m.) — Nelson County High School’s power outages continues tjos afternoon, but the school will not dismiss students early. A OneCall message from school secretary Anna Stivers  just before lunch said the school had partial power. “Some classrooms have power, some do not,” Stivers said. There will be no early dismissal of the high school students because of the power outage. The Gazette was told earlier today some electrical circuit mechanisms failed early Tuesday morning. Unconfirmed reports say the repairs will not be completed until sometime Wednesday. The outage does not affect any of the other district schools or the Nelson County Area Technical Center. Students in the high school have reported they have spent most of their time waiting. Students are also reporting the building is less than comfortable since the air conditioning is inoperable. In her message, Stivers said parents will receive another OneCall announcement about the issue later today.
