Tuesday, May 1, 6:15 p.m. — Repairs to the electrical system at Nelson County High School are expected to be completed tomorrow, Wednesday, May 2, and Nelson County High School will hold classes on a regular schedule. A OneCall announcement to parents received about 6:14 p.m. stated the school would allow students to go out of dress code in order to wear cooler attire –– which can include flip-flops, shirts without a collar and t-shirts and basketball shorts. All shorts must be of regulation length.
Only the freshman wing of NCHS and the vocational school had full power Tuesday, students reported. Many classrooms were dark elsewhere, with hallway lights on powered by backup geneator. Some students spent most of their class time out in the hallways where they had lighting. The school served lunch to students, which included cold-cut submarine sandwiches.
During afternoon announcements at the school, students were advised to bring flashlights with them tomorrow.
The outage does not affect other schools in the district. Temperatures inside the school will be monitored tomorrow to insure student safety.
