Wednesday, May 9, 2012, 2 a.m. — Due to some errors, omissions and misspellings, a revised chapter of ordinances that passed first reading last month had to be revised and voted on again at Tuesday night’s Bardstown City Council meeting.

Among the original revisions, the ordinance deletes gun control measures that were in violation of state statutes, establishes rules for indoor firing ranges, eliminates the prohibition against dancing on Sunday, and revises the allowable fines that may be assessed for violations of municipal regulations.

The council unanimously approved first reading on the corrected ordinance.

SOUTH SALE SEWER BIDS. The council unanimously approved awarding the South Salem Sewer Main improvement project to FilCon Construction of Cox’s Creek, the lowest of six bidders.

The project will replace the existing sewer line that runs from East John Rowan near Joe Hills Auto Center to the Towne Creek interceptor line. The new line will replace lines that are undersized, Civil Engineer Jessica Filiatreau told the council. An 8-inch and 12-inch line will be replaced with an 16-inch line, she said. The line serves a number of developments, north of KY 245, including Bourbon Downs and Salem Hills.

The exisitng sewer line dates back to 1976, Director of Public Works & Engineering Larry Hamilton said. “There’s been a whole lot that’s going on north of there that we didn’t anticipate in 1976,” Hamilton said.

In other business, the council:

– approved a rezoning recommendation to change property owned by Joe and Julia Osborne from R1B to R1C;

– approved a request for a five-year tax assessment moratorium for a home at 211 W. Flaget Ave. owned by Bill and Donna Ellis. Their application indicates they anticipate spending $60,000 in repairs to the property;

– announced the city cemetery committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. on May 16th in the mayor’s conference room at City Hall.

The council will next meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012, in the council chambers in the City Hall Annex building on Xavier Drive.
