Richard Lee ‘Dick’ Owens, 86, of Bardstown

Richard Lee “Dick” Owens, 86, of Bardstown, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born May 8, 1926, in Cuba, Ill., and was a retired firefighter in Philadelphia, Penn. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he served on the USS Cincinnati. He was a member of American Legion post No. 121, the International Association Firefighters, and Botland Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Owens; his parents, Ethel Mae and George W. Owens; four sisters, Mildred Parkinson, Leona Krider, Vivian Konley, and Laveta Williams; and one brother, Glenn Owens.

He is survived by his son, George W. Owens of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; one brother, James Leroy Owens of Canton, Ill.; two grandchildren, Christopher Lee Owens and Matthew Owens of Ocean City, N.J.; his niece and caregiver, Hilda Driskell of Bardstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation was chosen with no services.

Memorial contributions may go to Botland Christian Church or the Bardstown Fire Department.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
