Lucille Sigmon Hurst, 90, Bardstown

Lucille Sigmon Hurst, 90, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Bluegrass Assisted Living in Bardstown.

She was born on Sept. 5, 1921, in Mount Vernon. She was a former beautician and previous owner/partner of Hurst Restaurant for 35 years. She was a former resident at Nazareth Village where she lived for 15 years. She was a charter member of the St. Joseph Church bereavement committee, a former tour guide at St. Joseph Church, and a member of the Nelson County Homemakers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Abell Hurst; an infant daughter, Virginia Lucille Hurst; her parents, Willis Bradley and Jessie King Sigmon; and a sister, Doris Schneider.

She is survived by a son, William Stewart Hurst and his wife Donna Hurst of Bardstown; two daughters, Jo Ellen Traver and her husband Ronald Traver of Oklahoma, and Susan H. Downs and her husband John Downs of Cox’s Creek; four grandchildren, Tony Downs, Michelle Baca, Stewart Hurst and Luci Hurst; and a great-grandson, Alex Kostyn.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Batcheldor will be the celebrant.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Mann and Greenwell Funera Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m. by Deacon Dick Walsh.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Joseph Bereavement Committee.
