Juveniles face charges after police investigate Keene’s gun theft
Thursday, May 24, 2012, 1:20 p.m. — Three juveniles were charged with theft-related charges following a Bardstown Police investigation of a firearm theft from Keene’s Depot.
Keene’s had surveillance video of a 17-year-old male entering the business and placing a rifle down his pants. The juvenile was identified, and after a family member consented to a search, police recovered the shirt that matched the shirt the juvenile was wearing in the surveillance video. When questioned by police, the juvenile admitted the theft and said he left the store and gave the rifle to another juvenile.
The second juvenile was located, and admitted he received the gun from the first juvenile who wanted to trade it for marijuana. Police arrived at a third location to recover the rifle, they learned of a second gun, an AK-47, that had been stolen and given to another individual. That gun was recovered as well.
Charges were filed against three juveniles, the first for theft by unlawful taking (firearm) and receiving stolen property, the other two were charged with receiving stolen property.
