Maurice DeWayne Prather, 85, Chaplin

Maurice DeWayne Prather, 85, of Chaplin, died Friday, May 25, 2012, at his home. He was a native of Washington County and was a self-employed farmer and carpenter. He was a member of the former Chaplin Fork Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and former sexton of Highview Cemetery for 11 years and served on the Board of Directors for several years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis & Nilah Carey Prather.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Colvin Prather; two sons, Dana Prather and Christopher Prather, both of Chaplin; two sisters, Dixie Bunch and Kim Wilson and her husband Tony, both of Lexington; one brother, Barry Michael Prather of Munfordville; and two granddaughters, Summer and Courtney Prather.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with burial in Highview Cemetery in Chaplin.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2012 at the funeral home.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
