NC Gazette back online after outage caused by increasing website traffic
STAFF REPORT
Monday, June 11, 2012, 11:45 a.m. — The Nelson County Gazette was back online Sunday evening after an outage that began about noon Thursday. The Gazette’s hosting company blocked access to the website after the traffic levels the Gazette was getting began causing degrading the performance of the company’s servers. FatCow, the Gazette’s former New Mexic0-based web hosting company, reported the Gazette has averaged more than 220,000 monthly page views and upwards of 3 million hits per month.
“It’s a good problem to have,” said Tammy Brooks, president of No Ink Media LLC, the company that operates the Gazette. “The new hosting company will provide the Gazette faster, more reliable service, which ensures readers will find the Gazette when they are looking for it.”
Henderson-based A2Z Computer Services was chosen as the Gazette’s new hosting company; A2Z moved the Gazette to its servers over the weekend.
“We want to apologize for any inconvenience the outage causes our readers, and we appreciate the e-mails, texts and Facebook messages asking about the site,” Brooks said.
During the time the website was offline, news was posted on the Gazette’s Facebook page and on its Twitter account.
“I would like to remind Gazette readers who are also Facebook users to “like” our Facebook page,” Gazette Editor Jim Brooks said. “That way they can be alerted of the lastest updates directly on the Facebook page.”
