Police capture man who escaped custody in Eastland subdivision

Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, 8:24 p.m. — Nelson County Sheriff’s Office deputies searched the Hill Street area for a man who escaped from a deputy sheriff’s custody. The man’s vehicle was stopped by police on McDonald Court; he had been handcuffed when he broke away from the officer and took off running. The officer lost sight of the man, but area residents assisted police by providing reports of where they saw the man walking through yards in the area. He was described as about 5-foot 7 inches tall, 140 lbs, blonde hair in a buzz cut and wearing a blue hoody and jeans. Police had a K-9 unit assisting the search. The man was spotted by city police walking in the area of Slate Run Apartments. The man was wanted on arrest warrants in Florida and the local probation and parole office. After a 40-minute search, the man was apprehended and arrested.
