One dead, one injured in North Third Street motorcycle crash

Monday, June 19, 2012, 11:57 p.m. — A 54-year-old woman was injured and her companion died at the scene of a motorcycle crash on North Third Street near its intersection with Flamingo Drive about 6 p.m. Monday. The individual who died was wearing a helmet at the time the motorcycle and another vehicle collided. An EMT passing by stopped to attend the victims. Both motorcycle riders suffered severe injuries in the crash. The injured woman was transported to the Flaget Memorial Hospital helicopter pad to meet with a medical helicopter, and was believed to have a fractured leg, broken arm and head lacerations. The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment. The New Haven Police chief was called to assist with the accident investigation.
