Project Appleseed Tour set for June 30-July 1 at Knob Creek
STAFF REPORT
Tuesday, June 19, 2012, 8:20 a.m. — Families and individuals who want to learn traditional rifle marksmanship skills and history in a fun, safe setting will want to register for an upcoming Project Appleseed clinic to be held at the Knob Creek Gun Range in West Point the weekend of June 30-July 1, 2012.
Project Appleseed clinics offer family-friendly, low-cost rifle marksmanship instruction by some of the best instructors in the nation. Youth learn safe firearm handling and the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship, while adults refine their marksmanship skills. And everyone enjoys target shooting and learning about the important people and events of the first day of the Revolutionary War.
Participants will learn the four safety rules, the six steps to firing the shot, steady hold factors, and “natural point of aim.” Attendees also learn about the critical events of April 19, 1775, including the capture of Paul Revere by British Redcoats, which side fired the first shots at Lexington Green, the tragic events that occurred at Concord’s North Bridge, and about the obscure location where the War of Independence actually began.
Pre-Registration fees are very affordable: FREE for Active Duty Military, Guard and Reserve; FREE for peace officers, elected officials, and individuals with disabilities; $5.00 for youth (under 21); $10.00 for women; and $70.00 for all others. Participants supply their own rifles and ammunition. However, if someone does not have a rifle, one may be supplied if instructors are notified beforehand. Details of the Project Appleseed events can be found at: http://appleseedinfo.org/
Project Appleseed welcomes attendance by all individuals regardless of experience level, political affiliation, race, gender, or religion. There is also an Adaptive Appleseed program to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
