Thursday, June 28, 2012, 5 p.m. (UPDATED 5:20 p.m.) — As the temperature holds steady at 99 degrees, residents of the Bloomfield area are out of power and won’t likely have their power — or air conditioning — restored until after 10 p.m. tonight.
That’s the word from Chris Whelan , vice president of communications for Kentucky Utilities. Whelan said the outage was due to a copper theft at a substation. “Customers assume the outage is heat-related but it isn’t,” she said.
The utility reports that the outage affects 1,224 customers in the Bloomfield area. The outage includes the entire Bloomfield area, north to Wakefield in Spencer County, east toward Chaplin and west to and including the Fairfield area.
The outage was first reported aboug 2:57 Thursday afternoon.
