Stormy weather results in fire crews responding to power line fires

Sunday, July 1, 2012, 9:15 p.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department was called Sunday night at about 9:15 p.m. to 305 E. O’Bryan for an electrical wire downed by high winds. The downed line was said to be sparking and setting things on fire. Firefighters found the line was down but in a tree, the fire was contained to the tree and a city utility crew was summoned to cut power to the line.

While firefighters were at that location, another weather-related fire run was dispatched at 9:39 p.m. Firefighters were summoned to 341 S. Third St. for a report of a tree laying on power lines and sparking.  Firefighters found a power line missing insulation that was being periodically touched by a tree limb. City utilities arrived about 10:10 p.m. and fire units returned to the station.
