Francis ‘Frank’ Cyril Ballard, 73, Holy Cross

Francis “Frank” Cyril Ballard, 73, of Holy Cross, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, with his devoted wife of 49 years, Jane Thompson Ballard, by his side following a heartbreaking battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

FRANCIS ‘FRANK’ CYRIL BALLARD

He lived his life in the Holy Cross community, the majority of it in the house on the farm on which he was born. He was a life-long member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Frank attended the old St. Joseph Preparatory School in Bardstown and St. Francis High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleophas F. Ballard and Anna Marie Hagan Ballard; six brothers, Paschal, Aloysius, Caleb, Emanuel, Paul, and Benny; and two sisters, Flavia and Mary Theresa.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Caleb M. Ballard and his wife Beth Ballard of Holy Cross; three daughters, Carol Lyvers and her husband Randy Lyvers of Columbus, Ind., Aleta Sue Ballard de Ruiz and her husband Miguel de Ruiz of Nashville, and Wanda Ballard Repasky and her husband Bill Repasky of Prospect; one sister, Mary Agnes Simms and her husband Bob Simms of Georgetown, Ind. one brother, Ignatius Ballard and his wife Cecilia Ballard  of Holy Cross; four sisters-in-law, Mary Ballard (Aloysius), Dorothy Ballard (Paul), Susan Ballard (Benny) and Elaine Ballard (Emanuel); and 13 grandchildren, Drew Lyvers, Erin Ballard, Mary Kate Repasky, Logan Ballard, Luke Lyvers, Reed Repasky, Noah Ballard, Gabriel Ruiz, Regan Repasky, John Lyvers, Samuel Ruiz, Nicolas Ruiz and Claire Lyvers;

He was “Uncle Frank” to 56 Ballard grandchildren, which he thoroughly enjoyed, and many of whom visited him in his later years, and seemingly countless great and great-great-grandchildren, many of whom were fortunate enough to have been entertained by his many stories of growing up on the family farm.

He was a life-long farmer and jack-of- all-trades. He owned a country store in Holy Cross for a number of years and worked for the Marion Adjustment Center for 20 years as Public Service Coordinator doing community outreach with the inmates. Before his health failed him, he was known to his neighbors as the man to call if someone needed a ride, a driver or a tractor.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, at Holy Cross Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road in Loretto.
