New Haven men attract police attention while shopping for meth ingredients
STAFF REPORT
Friday, July 6, 2012, 12:30 p.m. — Two New Haven men were arrested Thursday afternoon after they attracted police attention while allegedly shopping for pseudoephedrine products in order to make methamphetamine.
Charles E. Brothers, 35, and Brent E. Miller, 33, were arrested after a Bardstown Police investigation that began in Walgreen’s pharmacy. Bardstown Police Detective Lynn Davis was in the store on unrelated business when he observed Brothers’ failed attempt to purchase pseudoephedrine. Brothers was unable to make the purchase because he had reached the monthly limit on pseudoephedrine purchases.
Davis saw Brothers leave the store and get in a white Chevy pickup truck and travel to Krogers where Miller entered the pharmacy and successfully purchased pseudoephedrine. When the truck left Krogers it was stopped on John Rowan Blvd. for failure to or improper turn signal and failure to wear a seat belt.
After obtaining authorization to search the truck, detectives found a digital scale, drug paraphernalia, and a plastic bottle containing approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine. Police observed Brothers attempting to discard a small prescription bottle that also contained a small amount of meth.
Miller told police he and Brothers had come to Bardstown with the intent of purchasing pseudoephedrine to manufacture meth.
Miller was charged with possession of a controlled substance, first-degree, methamphetamine; unlawful possession of a meth precursor; failure to or improper turn signal; and failure to wear a seat belt. Brothers was charged with possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine; unlawful possession of a meth precursor; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both men were lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
The investigation is continuing, and anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 348-6811.
