High-speed chase lands Bardstown man in jail, his vehicle in a creek

STAFF REPORT

Thursday, July 12, 2012. 11:30 a.m. — A routine traffic stop turned into a short police chase early Thursday morning when a man with outstanding arrest warrants ran from police and crashed his car into a creek.

Just after 1 a.m. Thursday morning, Bardstown Police officer Kyler Wright attempted to stop a 1996 Chrysler passenger car for expired license plates as the car turned from KY 245 onto Stonehouse Road. When the officer turned on his lights, the driver, Robert Bogard, 34, took off at a high rate of speed.

Police said Bogard’s vehicle slid through several curves before he lost control of the car and crashed into a creek. Bogard fled the vehicle on foot before a K-9 unit arrived. The K-9 tracked Bogard and found him hiding under a dock near a pond. The vehicle, registered to Amanda Bartley of Bardstown, suffered extensive damage in the crash.

Bogard told police he ran because he was aware of outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was named in one warrrant for a probation violation in Nelson County, and in the second for contempt of court in Pulaski County.

Bogard was arrested and charged with two counts of fleeing and evading police, second-degree; no registration plates; no registration receipt; operating on a suspended or revoked driver’s license; leaving the scene of an accident; and reckless driving. He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
