STAFF REPORT
Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 — Washington County EMS was called to St. Catharine College near Springfield just before 3 p.m. Friday after a brick layer fell four stories at a campus construction site.
The unidentified man was airlifted from the college and flown to UK Medical Center in Lexington for treatment. According to emergency management officials, the man’s injuries included a broken arm and collapsed lung. Springfield Road was closed in front of the college for about 30 minutes due to the need for a clear landing zone for the medical helicopter.
The man was working at the site of the new Aquinas Apartments, an apartment-style housing complex for junior and senior students. The apartments are scheduled to be completed this summer.
