Four people taken to hospital after SUV overturns on Loretto Rd.
Sunday, July 22, 2012, 2:15 a.m. — Four people were taken to the hospital early Sunday morning after the vehicle they were in ran off KY 49, overturned, and was struck by a second vehicle.
The single-vehicle accident was reported at 1:15 Sunday morning. A Dodge Durango carrying three people left the road and overturned in the 2500 block of Loretto Road. The SUV landed on its side in the roadway. While a 20-year-old passer-by was trying to help those in the crashed SUV, a Toyota pickup truck struck the SUV, temporarily pinning the 20-year-old’s leg under the the vehicle. When police arrived they helped extricate the man assisted the other passengers out of the SUV.
Nelson County EMS transported the 30-year-old driver of the SUV to Flaget Memorial Hospital for complaints of foot pain. The 20-year-old who had stopped to help was also transported by EMS to Flaget for treatment of lower leg pain, scrapes and abrasions. The two passengers in the SUV were reportedly taken to Flaget by a privately-owned vehicle.
The Bardstown Fire Department was called initially to extricate the occupants of the SUV. That run was canceled once the occupants were out, but firefighters were requested again for fuel leaking from one of the vehicles.
