Peter Trzop announces bid for Bardstown City Councl

STAFF REPORT

Monday, July 23, 2012, 1:40 p.m. — Bardstown Resident Peter Trzop announced his candidacy for the Bardstown City Council today.

Trzop, 61, is a retired solider from the U.S. Army. He has been employed by Inoac Packaging Group for the past 17 years.

In a press release, Trzop stated the following campaign goals:

Reform the Local Income Tax (Occupational Tax). Trzop proposes putting in an exemption of the tax for earnings up to $20,000, and taking off the cap limit. Trzop related, “Working families need our support right now during these financially challenging times. Local government should not be taking more from working families, but rather leaving more money in their wallets.”

Trzop considers the current form of the Occupational Tax to be immoral and unfair to working families.

Enhance the Quality of Life for residents of Bardstown. Local government needs to work harder and focus on developing and supporting venues and activities for families and citizens. Trzop noted, “Without a doubt Bardstown is a beautiful City, but we need to encourage the development of an indoor pool complex, YMCA, and a signature attraction such as a downtown Pavilion among other initiatives.”

Improvements for residents will also aid in attracting tourists and promote economic development.

Improve City Management. Increasing the efficiency of government is a top priority. Trzop stated, “My goal is efficient and effective city management which removes special interests and focuses on needs of the people.” Various programs and services need to be reviewed by the City Council such as basic services, the road network, first responders, and communication between government agencies. “We owe the people of Bardstown quality management that asks how we can do things better and more efficiently. I served our Country for 20 years and now I feel ready to serve the people of Bardstown as a member of the City Council,” Trzop commented.

Trzop lives in the Springhill Subdivision with his wife, Barbara (Colvin) Trzop.

The filing deadline for local races is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14th.
