Bardstown Police apprehend Busy Bee Market robbery suspect

Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 10:45 p.m. — Bardstown Police have apprehended a man who is believed to have robbed The Busy Bee Market, 1411 North Third St., at 10:30 Wednesday night while carrying a hand gun.

The alleged gunman entered the store with a t-shirt over his face and grabbed $5 and $10 bills. He ran from the store on foot toward apartments on Bourbon Court. The suspect was described as a 6-foot tall white male with a scraggly beard wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Witnesses told officers they saw the man walking in the area talking on a cell phone.

Store employees positively identified the suspect, whom they said had been in the store before. While checking a relative’s home on Sitka Street, dispatchers received a call from the suspect who said was inside the home and wanted to talk to an officer by telephone. Minutes later the suspect emerged from the home and was taken into custody by Bardstown Police just before midnight Wednesday.

Officers reported they recovered the cash taken from the business at about 12:45 Thursday morning.
