STAFF REPORT

Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, 11 a.m. (UPDATED Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, 6:30 p.m.) — Dallas Armstrong, a Culvertown resident who was a vocal advocate for environmental causes and responsible government, was found dead at his home on Thursday.

Dallas Armstrong, left, speaks during a meeting about the lawsuit against a local distillery in October 2006. Armstrong met with concerned citizens, media and members of the Bardstown City Council to discuss the lawsuit. Click to enlarge. Nelson County Gazette file photo.

Initial reports say neighbors had called police regarding the health of an outside pet that was not being cared for. That investigation led police to discover Armstrong’s body inside his home, apparently of natural causes.

Armstrong was a vocal critic of the bourbon industry’s environmental practices, which he alleged had contributed to his health problems while he lived in Bardstown. He was part of a lawsuit filed against the Barton Brands distillery claiming damages to health and property from the black mold prevalent on homes in neighborhoods around the distillery. He was a frequent caller to 1320 WBRT’s “Brooks & Company” program.

He was an advocate for renewable energy and corporate responsibility in proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and waste products. He was persistent in his efforts to point out local environmental problems to local and state elected officials.

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
