Bardstown man flees city police, injures deputy jailer while being arrested

STAFF REPORT

Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, 9:30 a.m. — A Bardstown man faces multiple charges after he attempted to flee from police, resisted arrest once he was in custody, and injured a deputy jailer while he was being processed at the county jail early Sunday morning.

Just after 1 a.m. Sunday, Officer Kyle Wright of the Bardstown Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a 1989 Chevy Monte Carlo operated by Daniel C. Johnson, 39. Johnson sped away from Wright, later sliding into a parking lot where Johnson fled the vehicle on foot. As Johnson attempted to climb a fence to avoid police, Wright deployed his taser against Johnson. Police took Johnson into custody.

Once he was at the Nelson County Jail, police say Wright continued to threaten Wright. While attempting to kick Wright, Johnson slammed deputy jailer Margie Poynter against a wall. She suffered a minor injury to her elbow.

Police say the registered owner of the vehicle Johnson was driving had not given Johnson permission to use it.

Johnson was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs/alcohol/etc.; fleeing or evading police, second-degree, (motor vehicle); fleeing or evading police, second-degree (on foot); resisting arrest; unauthorized use of a motor vehicle; disregarding a stop sign; terroristic threatening, third-degree; disorderly conduct, second-degree; menacing; assault, second-degree (police officer); and assault, fourth-degree (minor injury).

Police ask that anyone with information about this incident to contact them at (502) 348-6811.
