Chip McKay is third to file for open 57th district judge seat

Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, 3:45 p.m. UPDATED 10 p.m. — Bloomfield resident Arch C. “Chip” McKay, an assistant Commonweath’s Attorney for the 10th Judicial Circuit, has filed to run for the unexpired district judge seat of Robert W. “Bob” Heaton, who died unexpectedly last month.

McKay told the Gazette Monday his legal career has been dedicated to public service. for the past 12 years he has served as a prosecutor handling cases on both District and Circuit Court levels. He spent almost four years as Assistant County Attorney in Hardin County, and has served eight years as Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Nelson County.

“I feel that my extensive experience in the court system has prepared me for the office of district judge,” McKay said in a statement. “I am grateful for the support and encouragement I have already received.”

McKay is the third person to file for the open seat. Bardstown Attorney John “Jack” Kelly V and former District Judge Tom Dawson have also filed.

The deadline to file is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14.
