Candidates continue to file for local races as Tuesday deadline approaches

Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 — With the clock ticking on the 4 p.m. Tuesday filing deadline, there remain several races with open seats — even as candidates continue to file their candidacy paperwork at the county clerk’s office.

Incumbent Bardstown City Councilman Joe Buckman filed for re-election Friday, the eighth candidate to file for the six city council seats. Buckman is seeking his second term on the council.

The other candidate filings for local races include:

CIRCUIT CLERK. Diane Thompson filed for office in January, and she wiil be the only candidate for circuit clerk on the November ballot.

NEW HAVEN CITY COMMISSIONER. Four candidates have filed for the four open seats on the New Haven commission. Of these, three are incumbents — Don Cecil, Fred DeWitt and Jeff Rogers — and one — Chris Cecil — is a newcomer.

BLOOMFIELD CITY COUNCIL. One candidate — incumbent Walt Pozgay — has filed for one of the four seats on the Bloomfied city council.

FAIRFIELD CITY COMMSSIONER. Only incumbent Don Hardin has filed for the four open Fairfield commissioner seats.

NELSON SCHOOL BOARD. Of the three seats open on the Nelson County School Board, the incumbents are the only candidates who have filed, which include Diane F. Berry (District 2); Larry W. Pate (District 3); and Damon Jackey (District 5).
