Bardstown Police participating in national impaired driving crackdown
Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012 — If you drink and drive in Bardstown, beware — the Bardstown Police Department is joining with law enforcement across the nation for “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign Aug. 17 to Sept. 3, 2012.
The nationwide impaired driving crackdown will include high-visibility enforcement, high-profile events, and will be supported by national paid advertising. The goal is to curb alchol impaired driving in August through the Labor Day holiday weekend.
Bardstown Police will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers during the crackdown and will arrest anyone caught driving impaired.
“On average there is one alcohol imparied driving-related fatality very 51 minutes across American. But this tragic loss of life can be reduced if we get impaired drivers off our roadways,” Capt. Tom Roby said. “By joining this nationwide effort, we will make Bardstown’s roadways safer for everyone throughout the Labor Day period.”
Kentucky recorded more than 5,600 alcohol and drug-related crashes last year resulting in 150 deaths and more than 3,000 injuries. During the Labor Day period last year, 13 people died and 332 were injured in Kentucky. Six of those were alcohol-related deaths.
Chief Rick McCubbin said the campaign’s goal is to remind everyone that if they plan on drinking to never get behind the wheel of an vehicle. “If someone does choose to drive impaired, we will arrest them — no warnings, no excuses.”
