Richard Carlos ‘R.C.’ Bryan, 82, Culvertown
Richard Carlos “R.C.” Bryan, 82, of Culvertown, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Culvertown. He was a Korean Conflict Army veteran and a federal employee, retiring in March 1985 after 30 years of service as a carpenter in the engineer shop at Fort Knox.
He was a member of the Whiskey City Cruisers and a former member of the American Legion Post 121. He was an avid car enthusiast known for designing the “coming and going” car with two front ends. He was well-known for his hobby of making twisted walking canes with vine carvings and was a morning fixture at the Culver’s Country Kwik Mart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard T. and Zepphie Bryan; three brothers, Dick Bryan, Lloyd Bryan and Phil Bryan; and three sisters, Margaret Mouser, Imogene Cecil and Gloria Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Iona Clark Bryan; one daughter, Jennifer Ralston and her husband Bruce Ralston of Culvertown; one brother, William T. “Billy” Bryan of Culvertown; one sister, Bernadette Hart Wantland and her husband Jim Wantland of Louisville; two grandsons, Adam Ralston of Louisville and Jason Ralston of Culvertown; and one granddaughter, Kelli Ralston of Culvertown.
A Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. The Rev. Troy Overton will be the celebrant.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Clark and Houghlin Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Ba4rdstown. A prayer service is 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, conducted by Deacon Arnold Downs.
Clark and Houghlin Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, is in charge of the arrangements.
