STAFF REPORT

Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, 2:24 a.m. — Nelson County is in store for stormy weather Monday, some of it possibly severe, according to the latest from the National Weather Service.

After daybreak Monday morning, a cold front will push through Nelson County, bringing with it a high chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms. The storm is bringing strong atmospheric winds with it, and thunderstorms associated with this cold front are expected to be strong to severe. Nelson County and much of Central Kentucky are under a Tornado Watch through 10 a.m. today.

UP TO 2 INCHES NEW RAINFALL. The storm is predicted to bring up to 2 inches of additional rainfall Monday morning through Monday afternoon. The  rainfall will likely worsen flooding along the Rolling Fork River Valley.

The Rolling Fork River at Boston crested Sunday morning at 39.6 feet, and by 9:30 p.m. Sunday was at 38.0 feet.

Never attempt to cross a flooded roadway in a vehicle. Six inches of rapidly flowing water can sweep a car or truck off a roadway.
