Unknown pilot escapes injury after plane snags utility lines west of airport
Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, 1 a.m. — The pilot of a small plane that crashed west of the Samuels Field airport Thursday escaped injury after the tail of his place struck a telephone line.
Nelson County Dispatch received a call just after 3 p.m. Thursday about the plane crash and was told no one was injured in the crash and that the FAA was already at the crash site. Deputies dispatched to the area were unable to locate the crash site.
Bardstown Fire Chief Marlin Howard reported to dispatchers the plane was not visible from the roadway and had struck a Salt River Electric pole that also carried telephone lines. The plane crashed in the 400 block of Wheeler Road, about a mile and a half from the airport runway. The aircraft type and the name of the plane’s owner have not been released. The aircraft reportedly was not severely damaged.
