JOSEPH HERBERT ‘HERB’ SMITH

Joseph Herbert “Herb” Smith, 71, of Manton, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Springfield Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born March 13, 1941, in Washington County to the late John Barton Smith, Jr. and Margaret Stella Reed Smith. He was a retired Washington County maintenance worker and member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Manton.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Marie Smith; one brother, Edward Leo Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Reuben Taylor and Albertus Nally.

Survivors include two sisters, Catherine Taylor of Loretto and Betty Nally of Fredericktown; three brothers, Richard “Buddy” Smith and his wife Charlotte, both of of Springfield, Johnny Smith of Manton and Bobby Smith and his wife Alline, both of Loretto; one sister-in-law, Susie Smith of Lebanon and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial is noon Tuesday, Sept.4, 2012, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Manton, followed by burial  in the church cemetery. The Rev. Chris Allegra will be the celebrant.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with prayer services at 7 .p.m.

Pallbearers are nephews, Robbie Smith, Jimmy Taylor, David Taylor, Frankie Taylor, Kevin Nally and Eddie Smith.
