Alex Martin, 81, of Bloomfield,

Alex Martin, 81, of Bloomfield, died Saturday Sept. 15, 2012, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.  He was an original member of the  Northeast Nelson Fire Protection District  and former Little League football coach.  He was a member of the Chaplin Baptist Church and a farmer.  He was also a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was the son of the late Clyde and Timie Richardson Martin, and was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Martin.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Shelburne Martin; three daughters, Jackie Drake and her husband Roy, both of Bardstown, Jenny Pulliam Auxier and her husband Gary, both of Lexington  Va. and Beth Meador and her husband Bill, both of  Nashville; three sons, Lex Martin and his wife Martha, and Gregg Martin and his wife Caroylyn, all of Bloomfield, and Brad Martin of Lawrenceburg; and seven grandchildren, Lauren Drake, Alex Martin, Daniel Drake, Mary Beth Meador, Michael Martin, Taylor Martin and Matthew Martin.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with burial in Highview Cemetery in Chaplin with Bro. Leland Parks and Bro. Earl Pike officiating.

Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at the funeral home. The family requests expressions of sympathy takes the form of contributions to American Cancer Society or the Bloomfield Baptist Church Music Ministry.

Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
