Bardstown Police recover stolen car, .22-caliber rifle in NCHS parking lot

Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, 11:15 a.m. — Bardstown Police recovered a stolen Suzuki passenger car containing a stolen .22 caliber rifle Thursday morning in the Nelson County High School parking lot.
The vehicle was spotted by a Nelson County deputy sheriff, who alerted city police at about 8:30 Thursday morning. The vehicle was impounded so the city police department’s crime scene technician and examine the vehicle for fingerprints.
According to a press release, the rifle police recovered is believed to have been in another vehicle stolen Sept. 13 from the Terrapin Lane area. The passenger car police recovered at the high school Thursday was reported stolen from a Bardstown business on Sept. 17.
Police say they are investigating the possibility the items recovered Thursday are linked to juveniles arrested Sunday, Sept. 16, in connection with a string of vehicle thefts that occurred between Aug. 24 and Sept. 16. The juveniles, ages 15 and 16 years old, were charged Sunday with those vehicle thefts. The parents of the juveniles were charged with curfew violations as some of the thefts occurred during the early morning hours past curfew.
In a press release issued On Monday, Bardstown Police reported they had recovered several stolen vehicles, four of which were discovered hidden in the Melody Lake area. Working in conjunction with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, police recovered a black Ford Ranger, a grey Nissan Maxima, a white Dodge 4WD pickup, and a silver Ford Ranger. A stolen white GMC pickup truck was recovered Sept. 13.
No additional charges have been filed yet in connection with the vehicle and rifle recovered Thursday. Police noted that all of the vehicles stolen were left unlocked with the keys inside, and urged the public to secure vehicles when left unattended.
