Bardstown firefighters battle large woods fire near High Grove

Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, 3:55 p.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department spent nearly two hours Monday afternoon fighting a woods fire in the area east of the 12000 block of Louisville Road between Louisville Road and High Grove Road. Firefighters from Spencer County and Mount Washington were called but were canceled after Bardstown firefighers were able to gain direct access to the fire. Representatives from the Kentucky Division of Forestry responded to the fire site. Initial reports were that 5 to 10 acres of woods were involved in the fire. The fire was declared by the incident commander to be under control at 4:16 p.m. Firefighters stayed on scene to extinguish hot spots until 5:45 p.m.
