Roy Lee Wiggington, 94, Bloomfield

Roy Lee Wigginton, 94, of Bloomfield, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Windsor Gardens in Bardstown. He was a native of Nelson County, a former president of Muir Wilson & Muir Bank, and a former director of Wilson & Muir Bank. He was a member and group leader of the Kentucky Bankers Association, a former board member of the Nelson County Public Library and Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was the secretary and treasurer for Maple Grove Cemetery, a member of the Bloomfield Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, church clerk and song leader. He was a member of the Bloomfield Lions Club and a former director of the Nelson County Tobacco Growers Co-op. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and a farmer.

He was the son of the late Thomas Elsmere & Gertrude Adams Wigginton. He was a 1938 graduate from the University of Kentucky and taught business classes at Harrodsburg and Russell High School.

Survivors include his wife, Elva Hutchinson Wigginton whom he married July 27, 1944; two daughters, Mary Lee Pennington and her husband Steve, both of Prospect, Helen Joy O’Melia and her husband Mike, both of Huntington, Mass.; one son, Thomas F. Wigginton and his wife Jenny, both of Bloomfield; one sister, Emily Drake of Bloomfield; nine grandchildren, Melinda Lee Pennington-Voitus, Julie Ann Zelinski, Roy Lee Wigginton II, Ann Snider Wigginton, Detra Shea Yocum, Ryan Leslie Yocum, Megan Lee O’Melia, Monica Lynn O’Melia, and Gerald Flynn O’Melia; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at the Bloomfield Baptist Church with Bro. Leland Parks and Bro. Richard Carwile officiating. Burial is in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation is noon-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, and 9-11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at the church.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Bloomfield Baptist Church Music Ministry.

Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
