Friday, March 4, 2011, 11 a.m. — Rumors of a security lockdown at Nelson County High School Friday morning turned out to be just that — rumors.
The school conducted a lockdown drill Friday morning, which apparently prompted students to text their parents and family members that the school was under a lockdown.
The Nelson County Gazette fielded several e-mails from parents who had received text messages or heard of the text messages related to the lockdown exercise.
A call to the high school confirmed the lockdown was an exercise. The text messages sent by students prompted a number of phone calls from concerned parents, some of whom wondered if they needed to come and pick up their child at the school.
