Obituary: Laura Dean Crenshaw Schweitzer Coomes, 75, Bardstown

Laura Dean Crenshaw Schweitzer Coomes, 75, of Bardstown, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.

She was born March 5, 1937, in Deatsville. She retired after 30 years of service as a Braille transcriber from the American Printing House for the Blind. She was the owner/operator of the High Grove Grocery for 19 years and was a former member of the Disabled American Veterans.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Anthony C. Schweitzer, Sr., her parents, Theodore and Lucy Alice Crepps Crenshaw and a brother, William Theodore Crenshaw.

Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Jerry Coomes of Bardstown; one son, Antone “Andy” Schweitzer and his wife Colleen, both of Westland, Mich.; three stepsons, Anthony C. Schweitzer, Jr., and his wife Drema, and Harold Schweitzer, all of Louisville, and Lawrence Schweitzer of Troutman, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Beverly Steitz and Dorothy Speer, both of Louisville; four brothers, James Adrian Crenshaw of Cox’s Creek, David Dewayne Crenshaw of Bardstown, Edward Charles Crenshaw of Bloomfield and John Crenshaw of Louisville; a loving granddaughter, Anna Schweitzer McHone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral was 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at Clark and Houghlin Funeral Home with the Rev. Karl Lusk officiating. Cremation was chosen with burial at a later date in the Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Clark and Houghlin Funeral Home and Cremation Services was in charge of the arrangements.
