Bardstown to observe Veterans Day at 11 a.m. Monday ceremony

STAFF REPORT

Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012 UPDATED — Though Veterans Day is traditionally Nov. 11 each each, due to the fact the day fell on Sunday, the observance ceremony was moved to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12. Due to the possibility of rain, the ceremony will be held at American Legion Post 121, 206 West Broadway in Bardstown.

Kenny Fogle has been in charge of the observance, and will feature a number of local guests and dignitaries.

Following an invocation by the Rev. Karl Lusk, Bardstown Mayor Bill Sheckles will welcome guests along with state Rep. David Floyd. The Nelson County ROTC will present the colors before guest speakers ROTC Cadet Stuart Wooldridge, group commander and Cadet Xena Wilkerson take the podium. Wilkerson will read an essay, “What Veterans Day Means To Me.”

Representatives of American Legion Posts 121 and 167 will read the lists of deceased Legionaires followed by the playing of “Taps.” A benediction by Bro. Doug Alexander, chaplain for local first responders, will close the ceremony.
