CHARLES MARION ‘BLACKBERRY’ CULVER

Charles Marion “Blackberry” Culver, 83, of Bardstown, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012. He was born June 8, 1929. He enlisted in the Army April 13, 1947, was honorably discharged Oct. 13, 1948. He retired in 1994 from Geoghegan and Mathis Quarry after 43 years as a maintenance welder. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Chester and Mary Suzanne Bryan Culver; three brothers, Junior Culver, Francis Culver and Howard Culver and one sister, Rose Marie Thornsberry.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helena Douglas Culver; five daughters, Marilyn Reid of Boston, Linda Beshear of Okmulgee, Okla., Dianne Kochensparger of Bullhead City, Ariz., Lisa Corneilson of Radcliff and Janice Conley of Shepherdsville; seven sons, Gene Culver of Culvertown, Major General Lonnie Culver of Bardstown, Wayne Culver of Campbellsburg, Edwin Culver of Cox’s Creek, Marvin Culver of Loretto, Tony Culver of Bardstown and Major Timmy Culver of Bardstown now deployed in Djibouti, Africa; one sister, Agnes Culver Decker of Glendale; one brother, Raymond Culver of Culvertown; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Bill Hammer will officiate.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, and 9–10:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 at Barlow Funeral Home.
