Police question 2 juveniles ID’d starting Tuesday dumpster fire

Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, 12:30 a.m. — Two juveniles were detained by Bardstown Police Tuesday afternoon after eyewitnesses identified them as suspects in starting a dumpster fire behind the Dollar Tree store at Kentucky Home Square shopping center in Bardstown.

The juveniles were seen walking away from the area when the dumpster fire was reported at 2:54 Tuesday afternoon. The Bardstown Fire Department responded to and quickly extinguished the fire. Bardstown Police Chief Rick McCubbin also responded to investigate the fire as possible arson following a string of small fires that have been reported in the area.

Eyewitnesses gave a physical description of the juveniles, and police searched the area around the shopping center, the cemetery and the Henrytown area. A city police officer located two juveniles matching the descriptions at the Bardstown Community Park. The pair were transported back to the shopping center and were positively identified by an eyewitness. The pair were then transported to the police department for questioning and later released into the custody of a parent or guardian.
