Firefighters extinguish chimney fire at Poplar Flat Road home

Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, 2 a.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department responded about 7:12 p.m. Wednesday to a reported chimney fire in the 1300 block of Poplar Flat Road. A caller reported seeing flames and embers blowing from the chimney. On arrival, firefighters confirmed a small fire at the base of the chimney. They removed the insert from the fireplace and watered down the interior of the chimney. After checking that the fire hadn’t spread outside the chimney, firefighters cleared the scene at about 8:49 p.m.
